India is home to as many sa 1200 (roughly 14%), out of which 141 are endemic to this region. What's even more astonishing is that of the 27 Orders and 155 Families that bird life has been classified into, india 20 Orders and 77Families. the reason for this richness of species is the climate, the diversity of vegetation as its wide altitudinal rande, which extends from sea level to the Himalaysa.

Bird Checklist of Bharatpur National Park

Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur

It is very difficult to produce an authentic and exhaustive checklist of birds of Keoladeo. Many bird-watchers, tour operators and ornithologists visit this area frequently and every publication has one or two 'new records'. However a visitor may not find all the species here as some species have been seen just once or in a particular year. For still others no authentic information is available but they have found place in almost every publication for the park. In the first attempt a basic checklist is presented which will be improved/updated from time to time.
